Research, the heart
of graduate study, is conducted by groups of students and postdoctoral
research associates under the direction of individual faculty.
During the first semester of study, graduate students are encouraged
to join one of these research groups and begin their thesis research.
Research groups vary widely in size and organization, but all
are characterized by close interaction and exchange of ideas between
faculty and students. Faculty devote substantial time to their
students not only as advisors but as active collaborators in research.
For more detailed information
of specific areas of interest, consult the individual faculty
research descriptions.
